Introduction
Our team recently completed a comprehensive renewable energy upgrade for a property in Dyserth, Denbighshire, near the North Wales coastline. This project aimed to enhance the home’s energy efficiency, reduce its carbon footprint, and lower energy costs. After a thorough assessment of the property, we recommended a comprehensive solution involving an air source heat pump, upgraded radiators, and a solar power system with battery storage.
Methodology
The project began with an initial assessment to understand the home’s energy needs and existing infrastructure. Based on our findings, we proposed removing the old, inefficient LPG boiler and replacing it with a high-efficiency air source heat pump. We also advised upgrading the radiators and installing a solar power system with battery storage. The main objective was to optimise energy usage, improve the home’s heating efficiency, and provide a reliable, renewable energy source that could significantly reduce energy bills.
Installation
We replaced the outdated LPG boiler with an 8.5kW Mitsubishi Air Source Heat Pump. This advanced monobloc unit uses R32 refrigerant and boasts a high level of efficiency and reliability. It was positioned discreetly at the side of the property, ensuring it remained accessible for maintenance without being intrusive.
To complement the heat pump, we upgraded the internal radiators to accommodate the lower maximum output temperature of the heat pump system. These new radiators ensure that heat is distributed evenly and more efficiently, improving the home’s comfort and lowering energy bills.
Our team also installed 10 high-efficiency solar panels on the roof, capable of generating 4kW of power. The panels were carefully mounted to avoid damaging the traditional slate roof. The solar system was paired with a GivEnergy 3.6kW Hybrid PV Battery Inverter and a 9.5kWh battery storage unit. This setup allows the home to maximise energy captured during the day, storing excess solar energy for use at night or during peak hours. The system can also charge the battery during off-peak periods via the National Grid, further lowering energy costs. As a platinum GivEnergy installer, we can provide the highest level of service and an industry-leading 12-year warranty.
Funding
This renewable energy upgrade was funded through the UK government’s ECO4 grant. The ECO4 scheme supports homeowners in reducing their carbon emissions by providing funding for energy-efficient improvements. In this case, the grant fully covered the installation costs, as the homeowners lived in a non-gas property and qualified for solar panel and heat pump funding under the scheme. The grant enabled the homeowners to make these significant improvements at no upfront cost, helping them transition to renewable energy and lower their carbon footprint.
Outcome
The homeowners were extremely satisfied with the results. They praised the seamless installation process, noting that our team was professional and efficient. Since the upgrade, they have noticed substantially reduced energy bills and enjoy a warmer, more comfortable home. Overall, the project successfully met the client’s objectives, providing a sustainable, cost-effective energy solution for their home.
