Introduction
We were recently asked to design, install and commission a complete renewable energy system for a modern new build in Colwyn Bay, Conwy. The project incorporated 12 x 345W JA Solar Panels, Solis Inverter, Mitsubishi Ecodan Air Source Heat Pump and 300L hot water cylinder.
Methodology
Our approach to this project was carefully planned to ensure the seamless integration of various renewable energy components. It all began with a comprehensive assessment of the house and the energy needs of the homeowner. We considered factors such as sunlight exposure, energy consumption patterns and the space available for installation.
We specified 12 JA Solar 345W Solar Panels, which would be strategically mounted on the flat roof of the building to maximise exposure to sunlight. This positioning was chosen after a detailed analysis of the building’s orientation and surrounding obstructions. The panels would be paired with a Solis Inverter, which efficiently converts the captured DC power into AC power for household use.
In addition to the Solar PV array, we selected an 11.2 kW Mitsubishi Ecodan Air Source Heat Pump. This heat pump, renowned for its energy efficiency, would provide heating for the entire building. To complement the heat pump, a large 300L hot water cylinder was specified to meet the hot water storage demands of the occupants.
Installation
The installation was carried out by our in-house team, who ensured that the solar panels were securely mounted on the flat roof, taking into account the unpredictable coastal weather conditions and potential load-bearing issues. The Solis Inverter was also professionally installed to comply with the latest safety standards.
The Mitsubishi Ecodan Air Source Heat Pump was integrated seamlessly into the building’s plumbing system, providing a sustainable and efficient source of heating. The 300L hot water cylinder was carefully positioned to optimise heat transfer and hot water distribution around the property.
Outcome
We are very pleased with the outcome of this renewable energy project in Colwyn Bay. Since the installation was completed the JA Solar Panels have consistently generated clean, renewable energy, significantly reducing the building’s carbon footprint and resident’s energy bills. The Mitsubishi Ecodan ASHP has also provided reliable heating and hot water, ensuring a cosy home all year round.
This domestic project serves as a shining example of how renewable energy solutions can be seamlessly integrated into new builds, promoting sustainability and energy efficiency. Our renewable solution not only met but exceeded our client’s expectations and is an excellent example of our expertise and dedication to promoting sustainability across North Wales.
