Introduction
In the picturesque village of Rhosneigr, located in the south-west of Anglesey, North Wales, our team recently completed a project involving the installation of an 11.2kW Mitsubishi Air Source Heat Pump. The customer wanted to replace an outdated and inefficient oil boiler, which had become increasingly costly to run due to the rising price of oil. With the growing unpredictability of global oil markets, this transition to a more sustainable and cost-effective heating solution was both timely and necessary.
Methodology
The project commenced with an assessment of the customer’s property to determine the most suitable heating solution. Given the customer’s interest in reducing their carbon footprint and cutting down on energy costs, we recommended the Mitsubishi Ecodan 11.2kW monobloc unit. This air source heat pump is known for its high efficiency, low operating noise, and advanced technologies. The decision was also influenced by the unit’s innovative design, which allows it to blend into its surroundings while delivering exceptional performance.
Installation
Our installation team strategically positioned the air source heat pump at the side of the property, ensuring it was both out of the way and easily accessible for future maintenance. The location was chosen to minimise any visual impact while also taking into consideration the unit’s need for unobstructed airflow. We installed a Mitsubishi Pre-plumbed 300L cylinder near the heat pump in the home’s utility room. This cylinder, equipped with integrated hydraulic components and advanced controls, was chosen for its compatibility with the existing central heating system and its capacity to meet the hot water needs of the entire family.
The pre-plumbed and pre-wired nature of the cylinder significantly streamlined the installation process, allowing our team to complete the project efficiently and with minimal disruption to the homeowner. After installation, the system was thoroughly integrated with the existing central heating system and rigorously tested to ensure optimal performance.
Funding
A crucial aspect of this project was the customer’s ability to take advantage of the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS). This government scheme provided a £7,500 grant towards the installation, effectively reducing the financial burden associated with switching to a renewable heating solution. Without this funding, the higher upfront costs of air source heat pumps compared to traditional fossil fuel boilers could have been a barrier. The BUS scheme aims to bridge this gap by making green technologies more accessible to eligible UK homeowners.
Outcome
The successful installation of the Mitsubishi Air Source Heat Pump resulted in a significant improvement in the home’s energy efficiency. The homeowner was very happy with the new system’s performance and praised our team for their professionalism and their hassle-free installation process. This project delivered immediate benefits in terms of cost savings and environmental impact and demonstrated the viability of renewable energy solutions for residential properties across North Wales.
