1MW Ground Mount Solar PV Installation, Anglesey

Introduction

JM Renewables undertook one of its most significant solar projects on Anglesey, a scenic island off the northwest coast of Wales. The site was identified as an ideal location for a solar farm. The project aimed to deliver sustainable energy while ensuring a rapid return on investment. The client entrusted us to manage the renewable energy project.

Methodology

Our in-house team meticulously designed the solar farm to maximise energy output and efficiency. To optimise sunlight capture, 2630 solar panels, each with a capacity of 380W, were specified. Panel angles were calculated to achieve maximum exposure to the sun’s rays, contributing to an estimated annual peak potential generation of 853,106 kWh. This translates to a maximum output of 1MW, significantly contributing to the island’s renewable energy goals.

Given the site’s exposure to variable coastal weather, robust framework designs and precise alignment ensured the panels could withstand harsh environmental conditions while maintaining optimal performance.

Installation

Our experienced solar and electrical team completed the installation process with precision. Piling and framework construction were completed resulting in a secure and durable structure. Planned row spacing and alignment were carefully followed to avoid shadowing and maximise energy capture.

Given Anglesey’s susceptibility to strong winds and other adverse weather conditions, the framework was specially reinforced to secure the panels. Additionally, ducting was laid across the site to transport DC power efficiently to the inverter station. At the inverter station, DC power was converted to AC, enabling energy exports to the National Grid.

Outcome

With a peak generation capacity of 1MW and an annual energy output of 853,106 kWh, the project met the client’s sustainability objectives while addressing the growing demand for clean energy. The farm’s robust design ensures long-term durability, even in Anglesey’s challenging weather conditions.
