Introduction
In early 2024, our team completed a significant project involving installing a 441kW solar panel system for Grŵp Llandrillo Menai. The project focused on powering the new £20 million campus located at Tŷ Menai, Bangor. With a commitment to sustainability and renewable energy, our objective was to design and implement a robust solar panel system to meet the energy needs of the state-of-the-art facility.
Methodology
We started the process by conducting a detailed site analysis, considering factors such as sunlight exposure, roof structure, and energy consumption patterns. This information was crucial in determining the optimal size and layout of the solar panel array.
For the installation, we selected high-quality components to ensure efficiency and longevity. A total of 1,162 Trina Solar Panels, with a collective capacity of 441kW, were chosen for their proven performance and durability. The installation process was expected to take 35 days and would adhere to strict safety protocols and quality standards.
For the inverters, we opted for Solis, renowned for their reliability and efficiency in converting solar energy to usable electricity. The Schletter Seam roof mounting system was selected to complement the installation, providing a secure and aesthetically pleasing integration with the campus architecture.
Installation
Our in-house team worked efficiently to mount the solar panels in the designated configuration, taking into account the architectural considerations of the Tŷ Menai campus. The Schletter Seam roof mounting kit simplified the mounting, enhancing the overall visual appeal of the solar panel array.
The use of 3,276 solar clamps ensured the robust attachment of the panels to the roof, guaranteeing stability in all weather conditions. Our installation team meticulously laid 4,500 meters of D/C cable, establishing a reliable electrical network to connect the panels to the Solis inverters.
The installation was completed within the stipulated 35-day timeframe, showcasing our commitment to timely project delivery without compromising quality.
Outcome
The successful completion of the 441kW solar panel installation at Grŵp Llandrillo Menai’s new campus stands as a testament to our expertise in renewable energy solutions. The system will generate a substantial portion of the facility’s energy requirements, contributing significantly to its sustainability goals.
The client, Grŵp Llandrillo Menai, has experienced a notable reduction in energy costs, aligning with their commitment to environmental responsibility. The seamless integration of the solar panels with the campus architecture has not only enhanced the aesthetic appeal but has also positioned the institution as a pioneer in embracing green energy.
