Introduction
Our team recently undertook a significant project involving the installation of Solar PV systems for a housing association in Daventry, Northamptonshire. This initiative aimed to provide renewable energy to a community while simultaneously reducing their carbon footprint and energy costs. The project involved the meticulous installation of ten 420-watt solar panels on each property, accompanied by the integration of 3.68kW Solis inverters. This case study examines the methodology used, installation challenges and the outcomes achieved for both the housing association and its tenants.
Methodology
Our approach began with a comprehensive assessment of the housing association’s 44 properties, considering varying roof sizes, types of tiles and other architectural challenges unique to each residence. Leveraging our in-house expertise, we devised a bespoke solution tailored to the specific requirements of each property. Our team meticulously coordinated the logistics, ensuring seamless procurement and delivery of materials to the site.
Installation
The installation phase began with the mounting of 10 420-watt solar panels on the roofs of each property, accompanied by the integration of 3.6kW Solis inverters. Despite the diverse nature of the properties, our experienced technicians navigated the challenges posed by varying roof structures and materials. The installation of 440 panels, 44 inverters, and associated electrical work was completed in less than a month. Throughout the process, we prioritised minimising disruption to the tenants, ensuring that their daily routines remained unaffected.
Outcome
The successful completion of the solar panel installation has delivered substantial benefits for both the housing association and its tenants. With access to renewable energy sources, the community has significantly reduced its reliance on the National Grid, reducing its carbon footprint. The tenants have started to see the financial benefits of reduced energy bills, providing long-term economic benefits. Feedback from residents has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing satisfaction with the seamless installation process and the immediate impact on their energy costs.
